Whole Foods CEO has raised his concern stating that he does not agree with the government health care reforms and this has led to people boycotting Whole Foods. I believe that we all have a freedom of speech to express ourselves. It is also a right for one to express themselves and stand for what they believe. I believe the CEO of Whole Foods is a great man since he pays his employees well, ands doe as not overpay himself. It is disturbing as to why a man should be punished for expressing his on opinion.
The Whole Foods saga continues as unions join hands to fight the CEO
The CEO of Whole Foods, John Mackey is facing stiff criticism form two unions which recently joined hands to protest on his comments. The Change too Win union which is an investment group and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union have given statements to the media which aim to attack the CEO and calling people, to boycott visiting the Whole Foods store.

The drama has found its ground and has retraced its step back to the article that Mackey published in newspaper namely the Wall Street Journal. He commented on the universal medical care policy that the president of the US, Barrack Obama who is one of his clients endorsed and made it enacted into law for the benefit of the citizens of the state. The employees of Whole Foods found it as a betrayal and denial of their rights and values by their CEO. Most of them turned to the internet making remarks and comments which led to the boycott of his company. The media and social sites were used by the unions and employees to express their anger and disappointment regarding the comments made by John Mackey.
The battle extended and in some way shifted its course and was seen as a battle between the Librans and the liberals. The Whole Foods brand targets the liberal which is attracted to how the company runs its corporate awareness program to the people. The company is designed to make the customer feel the good worth of their money whenever they purchase food products at the store.
The Whole Foods Company considers its workers to be its greatest workers and invests heavily in them. They are paid good salaries they have the opportunity t to take long leaves and their gym membership is catered for. In addition, they have good medical coverage and have put in place a very strict non discrimination policy. It attributes telecommuting for its workers and offers same sex benefits to avoid gender discrimination. This is what every liberal would want for when shopping in the store.
The company has made in the past many charitable donations to benefit the less fortunate.
All these however come at a price and all these costs are passed on to the Whole Foods customers when purchasing products. Customers who can be able to make payments at a premium will expect more services and better quality goods in the long run and to have better health care.
Mackey comes out as a liberation which means that he is more of a self man in politics and polices in the organization. In this case, his comments come out as negative remarks and in the long run ruin his whole image. His company is big and represents the corporate sector hence the need to advocate for universal carte for all the citizens.
In order to make a comeback in the business scene, Whole Foods needs to distance itself completely form the comments made by the CEO. Whole Foods has done much for the whole community by helping the needy, engaging in charitable activities, taking care of the environment and paying its employees well. Many people do not notice what good it has done to the economy and due to the comments made by the CEO, the company faces a down fall with many people with drawing from the supermarket.
The unions that have joined in the fight seem to be a bit more insincere since they do not have clear guidelines as to why they are leading the boycott. There seems to be a problem between the unions and the CEO regarding previous issues like labor and their relationship is strained.
The union seems to have very many issues with Mackey who has many anti-unions polices. The issues of health care cover is a minor statement and want to simply put him in the light and have found the perfect opportunity to do so.
Whole Foods consumers need to show how liberal they are and remember the great deals and endorsements that have been done by the company in the recent past. If Mackey’s statement is bad, it is wise to judge him alone for what he said but not to drag politics and minor issues in this whole saga.
